TEACHER TESTIMONIALS

Art Students Celebrating

" I have been so excited to see the look on my students' faces as I tell them their art has been approved to be published in the next edition on the Celebrating Art Book. It really has impacted their attitude towards art and excited about future projects. My students are honored to be in this book because they are always looking in the last publications and react with such amazement of the quality of art. "

Confidence

" Celebrating Art is a teacher and parent friendly art contest that allows all students to submit their artwork into a national contest for absolutely free! It is juried, yet reasonable and allows the students to participate in a fair, competitive art contest. My students get a huge smile on their face when they hear that they have been chosen and an instant confidence in their work is shown. The book is beautiful and is a wonderful keepsake of the students accomplishments. Thank you for allowing us to participate in your amazing contest that truly Celebrates Art! "

Andrew whose beautiful spirit can never be broken

" I am an art teacher. Andrew, a student I taught in kindergarten, first and third grade was diagnosed with a very rare bone disease. Andrew has always enjoyed art class and is extremely creative- one of those students who gets "lost" in their art work. In third grade, Andrew is still undergoing treatment and battling cancer. In class, we worked on a "mola" lesson. The students were asked if they could be an animal what animal would best describe their personality. Students chose an animal to sketch and use in their "mola" design. Andrew seemed unhappy with the animal he chose, so I asked him if he could choose any creature to be what would it be. He said definitely a dragon because they are fierce and brave. I agreed with the choice and asked why not? Andrew had not known how to draw a dragon and that is why he had not chosen it at first. We searched online for the fiercest dragon to use as reference, and found just the right one. I altered several of the dragon"s traits to make it Andrew's and he transferred the image onto his paper. Andrew was so diligent and steadfast when he worked on his dragon "mola", and then when he thought up the fire pattern around his creature. He was in a wheelchair and I know some days he was feeling sicker due to treatment, regardless Andrew kept working. His para who helped get him safely to and from class and monitor him was very encouraging and always cheered him on. I asked Andrew if I could enter his dragon "mola" in the contest, and he excitedly said "Yes!" I recently had to resign for personal reasons and health issues, but know I needed to enter his wonderful dragon into this contest as I promised. Andrew is a very special artist who shines, as many of the students at Thalberg Elementary School are! "

ART...WITH PURPOSE

" I have been teaching art for over 30 years and in that time I have learned that creativity takes on greater importance for the artist if it is done with purpose. Art is one of the only times in the school day that a student has an opportunity to create. Given this opportunity and an avenue to share their work with others, sets the stage for truly authentic and relevant learning. Having works of art entered and perhaps accepted, gives validity to the importance of the creative process. We need avenues like this to encourage aspiring young artists. "
