If the student took the photo, it is not a problem. 

For the lower grades, that are still learning technique and composition, we allow art that has been composed from an image or their rendition of a famous painting like "Starry Night." However, for the upper grades, as we move into grades 7-12, we ask that the composition be original. I know in the past we have allowed copies to slip through. Most of these were images that we did not know were not original. There are too many photos on the internet to track. However, we also know that we let several slip through that were copies of famous paintings. 

We take the integrity of this contest seriously and want to earn and maintain your trust and respect. For students in grades 7-12, please create original compositions. In addition, for students in all grades, we ask that copyrighted images are not entered into our contest. These would be images that would range from Spiderman and Pokemon to Disney characters.

A contest is a great motivator for your students. When students know they are creating art for a contest with the possibility of being included in a book, students will often make an extra effort to do the best job possible. For a little extra work, the hopes and dreams of your students can be recorded forever in a full-color hardbound book. Students will be proud to display their work and teachers can also earn a free copy of the art book. Each teacher that has 5 or more students published will receive a free copy of the book that includes their students' art. Teachers also earn classroom rewards based on student participation that can be redeemed for free art supplies from Blick Art Materials. The art anthology can be used to excite students about your art program. A free book for the classroom will also allow students to see their work in print. 

Teachers can enter their students or students can enter on their own.  Our judges will review each entry and decide if the entry should be invited to be published in the art book (less than 50% are accepted to be published).  The students that are accepted to be published are notified. Once the student verifies the entry is his or her original work and grants permission to be published then the entry is included in the anthology.  The judges will go through the entries again and choose the Top Ten contest winners in each grade division of K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. 

Yes. As long as a student is in grades K-12 in the United States, it doesn't matter where he/she goes to school.

Each year as we try to contact the finalists and winners in our contests we find that often schools do not forward or deliver mail to students. With a home address, we can be in direct contact with the student. We do not sell our mailing list. Home or school addresses will not be given or shared with any other company, individual or agency for any purpose. Home address information will only be used by CelebratingArt.com to contact the winners of the contest and to inform other high merit entries about the results of the contest and the ensuing publication. The Spring Contest Anthologies are shipped in October. The Fall Contest Anthologies are shipped in April and May. The Summer Contest books are shipped in January. We appreciate your patience. The process of creating a quality hard-bound book takes a long time.

Yes, you can enter the Fall, Spring, and Summer contests, but only one entry is allowed per student for each contest.

As the books are put together by region, a school can have as few as one entry or as many as several hundred entries. Being invited to be published is an honor and not made available to every student who enters. 

The list of winners has the names of the Top Ten winners in each contest division. Being invited to be published means that your entry was in the top 30% of the entries for your area. It does not necessarily mean that you were a Top Ten Winner. The Top Ten Winners are chosen from the students who were selected to be published and gave permission. The contest becomes very selective when it comes down to the Top Ten. A Top Ten winner will receive special recognition in the book, a free copy of the book and a $25 award. Students who were not winners, but were invited to be published, are included in the book when we receive their permission to publish their entry.

Absolutely not! We take pride in the fact that we are selective with our entries. We reject more entries than we accept to be published. Our objective is to make it an honor to be selected for the anthology.

The student always owns the rights to the entry. If an entry is selected to be published, we ask for one-time permission to publish the entry and give all rights to the student.

The judges are looking for good art. They are not looking for a certain percentage of students to publish. Some classes have excellent art teachers and the result is there may be many students who create excellent work. The best art pieces will be considered to be published and then the Top Ten in each grade division will be recognized as the overall contest winners.

It is free to participate in the contest and there is no fee or required purchase to be included in the art book. To be published, we must only receive the entry and then if you are invited to be published you just need to grant permission to publish your art. Any purchase is optional.

 Yes, you can still enter the contest. Please include your school information including school name, address, and teacher’s name. This helps us to be able to contact you and helps your teacher to possibly receive a free copy of the anthology.

After the contest deadline has passed, if a student is accepted to be published, a postcard will be sent to the teacher and to the student's home or school address. The student will then need to go online to grant permission to publish the art. If a student is a contest winner, a letter will be sent to the student and the art teacher. If a student does not have access to the internet, we ask that the art teacher or school library make access available.

This book is professionally bound in an 8.5 x 11 format.

No. All you need to do is enter your students' art online or simply tell your students about the contest so they can enter on their own.

Any type of art will be considered including charcoal, collage, computer graphics, drawing (pen and ink or pencil), fiber/fabric, mixed media, mosaics, paintings, pastels, printmaking, sculpture and watercolors. It is important that the photo of the art represents the art well and is of high quality. As this is NOT a photography contest, photos that are not pictures of art will not be accepted.

The Top Ten students in grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 will receive a $25 award. The Top Ten winners will also receive a copy of the book that includes their work. Teachers with 5 or more students published in the book will receive a free copy for their classroom. Teachers also earn Classroom Rewards based on student participation that can be used to receive free art supplies. By entering the contest, if you are a Top Ten Winner, you are giving us permission to display your art as a contest winner. All artists own their art. We just ask permission to show winners on our website and permission to publish the art in our anthologies.
